Vinod Paul is Niti Aayog member and a professor of paediatrics at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.[2]Paul is a paediatrician at AIIMS, and is known to have done substantial work in public health.[3]He was one of the three doctors shortlisted for the post of AIIMS director earlier this year.[4]He leads the WHO Collaborating Centre on Newborn Health for South East Asia Region and the Centre for Advanced Research in Newborn Health.[4]He is also a member of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation, the highest decision making body in the country for decisions on the basket of vaccines for the universal immunisation programme.[4]Having introduced neonatal care in two of India's states, he got to understand how to motivate policy makers to adopt new practices such as newborn resuscitation and kangaroo mother care, and was instrumental to introduce newborn health in medical facilities.[5]

Centre intervenes to handle Covid situation in Delhi

Shah tweeted that a committee has been formulated under Vinod Paul, Member, NITI Aayog, to consider providing at least 60 per cent of beds in private hospital at lower rates. Within two days of crossing the three-lakh mark, 3,20,922 Covid-19 cases have been reported as on June 14. New cases being detected per day are increasing at a rapid pace. In the next two days, the diagnostic testing capacities in Delhi will be doubled and tripled in the next six days, Shah said.[9]

Expert group meets vaccine makers

We are now planning to increase our testing capacity to 10 lakh tests daily. We need to develop a cohesive strategy to address the issues we are facing. Though Ayushman Bharat has served the people effectively, there are several supply side concerns that need to be addressed, said Vinod Paul, member, NITI Aayog. He added that there was a need to augment our healthcare infrastructure and try to reach 2 beds per 1,000 people by 2025.[10]
